Chateauneuf de Grasse, once the home of the Counts of Grasse is a hill village at 400m with commanding views to the Riviera and Esterel, set against a backdrop of the Alpes-Maritimes. Grasse 7km Vence 20km Valbonne 7km Cannes 18km Nice-centre 35km.
Chateauneuf is gateway to the majestic Gorges du Loup and close to the Route de Napoleon which winds its way northwards from Grasse through Provence and the Hautes-Alpes.
From Chateauneuf as a starting point you can, in a short time, experience an unexcelled variety of Provencale and French Riviera sights. The south coast of France is 25 minutes away. Whether you slip down there in summer for a swim in the early morning or evening or take a coastal drive before dusk in winter the views and experience are always rewarding. By contrast, you can, in even less time, drive up to the medieval village of Gourdon perched precariously on high looking out over the Loup valley with superb views to Nice and sometimes even see Corsica. From there you rise up to the high plain of Caussol, popular with horseriders, and watch the apparently effortless flight of paragliders (or enrol yourself for lessons!). You may also decide to turn north to Greolieres, our nearest ski resort, some 45 minutes from Chateauneuf, passing hidden fields of violets that supply the region’s famed perfume manufacturers.
The route of the Gorges du Loup takes you within 25 minutes to Vence and nearby St Paul, passing through Tourrettes sur Loup. All are most rewarding and effortless to reach as of course are those towns and villages in the immediate vicinity. These include Grasse, perfume capital of the world, Opio village, the old picturesque market town of Valbonne with its renowned food shopping and much filmed main square, and the historic and picturesque towns of Biot and Mougins.
For ease of holidaying in the South of France it would be hard to find a better positioned place than Chateauneuf, noted for its quiet and calm. Its favoured position is characterised by light breezes in summer that lessen the intensity of provencale heat and in winter the climate is drier and often rather warmer than in the valleys below.
For those who like outdoors pursuits the possibilities for walking, be it for relaxation or to be more "sportif" are endless. Close by you can find tennis, mountain biking trails and horse riding. You can reach some 10 golf course within 20 minutes. Pre du Lac, Chateauneuf’s shopping area provides a meeting point for paragliders and alpine cyclists. A few minutes further away there is an area marked out for model plane flying, karting and mountain biking. At Lake St Cassien ( 25 minutes ) numerous lake sports are offered. To complete the selection you need only drive to Castellane ( 1 hour ) to enter the spectacular canyons of the Gorges de Verdon, regarded as the finest in Europe. There you can indulge in rafting and canoeing whilst eagles (and vultures!) soar above, or you can hire mountain bikes and cycle along the gorges.
Last but by no means least, where else can you visit with ease art galleries dedicated to Chagall, Matisse and Picasso. You can chose from excellent concerts and opera at Nice and Monte Carlo or experience the latest pop stars at Frejus. The choice of classical gardens is unrivalled. For younger visitors there is a Marineland (Antibes), a Zoo (Cap Ferrat ), Ocean museum, (Monte Carlo) and a historical car museum (Vallauris). In summer you will come across numerous local concerts and events whilst the Cannes International firework festival extends from July 14th until late August. You can even see them from
